Rosie O'Sullivan: Soul Songstress

Back with a new style and EP, Britain's Got Talent semi-finalist from 2013, Rosie O'Sullivan, has returned a more complete musician with some truly inspired and heartfelt songs.

Many thought Rosie would go all the way in the competition with her stunning vocals, but it wasn't to be. However, perhaps this was for the best as she has now had the time to perfect her craft as a singer-songwriter and come up with a collection of beautiful songs.

Rosie began her singing career at a young age, performing in the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain in both the 2011 and 2012 BBC Proms. Before this, Rosie was adept at playing piano and saxophone by the age of 11 and these have certainly helped develop her music.

However, one thing that has influenced her new style more than anything is the music that her parents used to listen to. As a child, Rosie was raised on the sounds of motown and soul and this becomes clear when listening to her new material. They are songs about love, but from a number of different perspectives, showing the originality in Rosie's work. For instance, 'Hurt' tells the tale of her brother's break-up, whilst 'No One' touchingly relates to the love between her parents that Rosie is witness to everyday.

After her brother's break-up, Rosie went to visit him in America to take a break, for his sake as well as hers. She wasn't intending on focusing on her music during this holiday, but somehow, her travels and a feeling of homesickness gave her the inspiration to create these songs.

Having performed at Birmingham Pride, Big Festival and The Brummie Awards and worked alongside Martha Reeves, Shalamar and The Real Thing, O’Sullivan is back and better than ever.
